Setting up a VPN connection to the CS departmental network (Mac OS X)

This will not work with Mac OS Sierra, which has withdrawn support for PPTP

Under 'System Preferences' -> 'Network', set up a new interface (using the '+' button - marked below) with the following settings:

Interface: VPN
VPN Type: PPTP

and give this interface a suitable name.

Then click 'Create'

Select this interface, and fill in the configuration settings as follows:

Server Address: pub-vpn.csc.liv.ac.uk
Account Name: your CS username

Then click 'Advanced'

Select the 'DNS' tab, and enter the following settings:

DNS Servers: 10.128.0.4 and 10.128.0.5
Search Domains: csc.liv.ac.uk and liv.ac.uk

Then click 'OK' and 'Apply'

When you connect using this interface, you will be prompted for your CS password.
You should then be able to access facilities within the CS departmental network.
