Biography

Dr Dan Sun is currently a senior lecturer/associate professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen's University Belfast in the United Kingdom. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She subsequently earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton in the UK. She joined Queen's University Belfast in 2014, one of the prestigious Russel Group universities in the UK, becoming the first Asian female to obtain a permanent faculty position in the department in its 104-year history.



Dr Sun's research interests are diverse and have received funding from prestigious funding bodies such as the UK EPSRC and the EU Horizon 2020 Program. Currently, her primary research focuses on the development of novel multifunctional composite materials and their wide-ranging applications. In recent years, Dan Sun has pioneered her research in the field of advanced thermoplastic based composite materials, with her pioneering scientific discoveries published in top journals such as Composite Part A, Composite Part B, and the Journal of Materials Processing, etc. As of now, Dan Sun has published 86 peer reviewed journals, with over 3000 citations and an h-index of 33. Additionally, she is a reviewer for EPSRC peer review college, a guest editor for Frontier of Materials, and peer reviewer for wide ranging high ranking journals such as ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Chemical Engineering Journal, Composite Part A, Composite Part B, and Composite Structures, etc.
