ResearchReady Programme Eligibility

This internship is open to undergraduate students who meet the following criteria:

  • Be in the penultimate year of your undergraduate degree, or have already completed an undergraduate degree, in a STEM subject (including Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or other science or AI facilitatory-related technical field) at a UK university.
    (Eligible students will typically be in their 2nd or 3rd year of a 3-year degree in 2025, or their 3rd or 4th year of a 4-year degree but we will consider applications from students in other circumstances subject to satisfying the rest of the essential criteria).
  • Be on track to achieve or have achieved a final undergraduate degree grade of 2:1 or higher, and a demonstrated interest in AI, robotics, and/or materials science.
  • Not currently studying for or have completed a master’s degree or PhD.  
  • Are enthusiastic about research and eager to learn new concepts and techniques.
  • Have an interest in obtaining an AI or robotics-related postgraduate degree or building a career in AI or robotics.
  • Be a UK resident and have, or expect to have, the right to live and work full time in the UK for the duration of the programme and be able to provide proof of this.
  • Are available for the full duration of the internship.

In addition, you must meet at least one of the following socioeconomic criteria:

  • Have been eligible for Free School Meals in the 6 years up to the end of key stage 4 in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
  • Live in an area in the lowest two deciles according to a postcode measure such as IMD or POLAR.
  • Have at some stage been in local authority care.
  • Be in receipt of full state support for maintenance for your course of undergraduate study.
  • Identify as having Black or Asian or Minority ethnicity.
  • Identify as female or non-binary.
  • Be a mature student (21 or over at the beginning of the course).
  • Have been granted independent status by Student Finance England due to estrangement.
  • Be a carer.
  • Have refugee status.
